HISTORY

The family business was established in 1873 by brothers Henri and Jean Massard, both locksmiths. They set up a metal construction workshop for the manufacturing of mining carts, primarily used in the iron mines of Luxembourg and Lorraine.

By the end of 1882, a foundry was added to the construction workshop. The first casting from the Massard cupola furnace took place on October 15, 1883.

Initially limited to the production of parts for mining carts, the foundry increasingly focused on casting mechanical parts and street castings under the Massard brand.

Between 1930 and 1960, existing facilities were regularly modernized, and the production program was adapted to market needs. Aside from narrow-gauge railway equipment, the emphasis shifted to the study and manufacture of concrete mixers, lifts, winches, etc., for the construction industry. The foundry's program expanded to include artistic and decorative castings.

From 1982 to 1986, the old foundry was closed after a new unit equipped with efficient melting and molding technologies was constructed. In parallel, the equipment of the construction workshop was adapted to market demands. Today, 70% of foundry production is exported to neighboring countries.

The management of the company is currently ensured by Serge WURTH, a direct descendant of the founders.
